Questions

VAT Services, answered

When must I register for VAT in the UAE?
Registration is mandatory once taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months, or are expected to in the next 30 days. Voluntary registration is available once supplies or taxable expenses exceed AED 187,500.
How often are VAT returns filed?
Most businesses file quarterly, with the return and payment due within 28 days of the end of the tax period. The FTA assigns some larger businesses a monthly period.
What is the difference between zero-rated and exempt supplies?
Zero-rated supplies are taxable at 0% and you can still recover related input VAT — for example qualifying exports. Exempt supplies carry no VAT and block input recovery on related costs. Misclassifying one as the other is a common and costly error.
